What is something you do well?

Well. I had to call for back up on this one. Andie says guitar, and Maddie agrees. Maddie also says that I'm good at playing with her and Annabel and Blaine. My dad says I'm excellent at spending money. Maddie says working. Well that was a lot. Haha. I would like to say that I procrastinate well.
One thing I don't do well is this blog. It's very difficult to keep up with. Plus, I don't like this whole dig down deep thing that seems to be a theme. But I'll keep it up, because I just love Madelen Lee Bushman so much!

This I Believe

Yet another English assignment that I felt inclined to share.

Music is Magic
To me, life is a musical. I’ve made myself a world where it’s perfectly normal to have random bursts of song and dance. It’s those moments of my life that I love the most. Any time I’m feeling down or out of sorts, I just turn on my iPod, and suddenly I feel so much better.
I guess it all started in my childhood. I remember singing along to Bon Jovi, Styx, Journey, Cars and Meatloaf with my dad. My mom and I would listen to Garth Brooks, Shania Twain and Martina McBride. These wonderful people were the early patrons to my love of music. I didn’t limit myself to one style either. Classic rock and country were just the beginning for me. I now listen to pretty much everything but rap.
My dad was the manager of Putt-Putt Golf and Games when I was young. After school, my siblings and I would do our homework in the party rooms. Once we were done, we were allowed to do anything we wanted. My brother and sister would go go-carting, but I chose to help pick the music for the laser tag games. It was during this time that I fell in love with the songs “Amanda” and “There She Goes” by Boston and Sixpence None the Richer respectively. The mere mention of these songs now bring me back.
I love the fact that songs collect memories. Much like the previous story, anything by Chicago reminds me of earlier times. My sister got her own room when she was around 9 years old, and she had her own CD player for the room. The only CD she had was a Chicago one. Every time you would step into her room, you would hear songs like “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” or “Look Away”. Whenever I hear those songs now, I think of blue carpet and a Harry Potter bedspread.
Speaking of Harry Potter, I have a delightful quote from the first book. “Ah music, a magic beyond all we do here!” This is a quote from Albus Dumbledore, and I don’t think I could have put it any better myself. There’s something about music that just makes life better. Imagine, if you will, a life without music. There would be no dancing or suspenseful movie moments, all songs would just be poems. Don’t get me wrong, I love poetry, but once you put it to music you truly understand what the poet is trying to say.
I, myself try to express what I truly feel through songs. I try to find a song that goes along with everything. If I can’t find one, I try to write it myself. This is the only way I think I actually connect with my feelings. I’ve heard it said that music expresses what words cannot. This is true. Sometimes just by slowing down the tempo you get a whole other meaning to the song.
I would like to take all the opportunities I have in life and try to incorporate music into them. I feel that music will take me where I need to go. This I believe.

Truth Hurts

When it might hurt their feelings, how do you feel about telling your friends the truth?

This one is difficult. It depends on what you're telling them. If it's something they can live without, then I won't tell them. But if it's something that they need to hear, I will most definitely tell them.

Tied Together With a Smile

To explain this post, I had to write a personal sketch for English and decided to use a prompt from my journal jar.

“Tied Together With a Smile”
This assignment gives me a lot of pause, as I don’t often delve deep into my mind to discover what makes me tick. I’m more of the quiet type that doesn’t think much. As such, I had no idea what I should write about. While I was thinking my eyes wandered to the Journal Jar my sister gave me before I left. I figured I could get a good prompt out of it. I reached my hand into the jar and pulled out a piece of yellow paper upon which was this writing, “ What do you like most about yourself?”
I figured this was perfect to write about. But now that I’m sitting here trying to think of what to say, nothing comes to mind. I don’t like thinking about what I like most about myself, because I feel it is somewhat egotistical. I feel like I’m saying, “Hey world! Look at me! This is the best thing about me! Look! Listen! Pay attention to me!” I’m not one to draw attention to myself. I feel if I say that’s what I like most, others will say how they do it so much better.
I guess I’m really a downer. This is what this essay is making me realize. I’m a really harsh judge on myself. I like to play the guitar. It’s actually my favorite thing to do, but I don’t want people to hear me because I know I’m not as good as most people out there. I love singing along while I play, but I won’t sing too loud because I don’t want to hit the wrong note, or go off key. I write my own music, but I won’t sing it for people if they don’t ask me to. I don’t like pushing my inadequacies on other people.
Like I do for most things in my life, I would like to compare what I’m trying to say to a song. As much as I don’t want it to be a Taylor Swift song, it is. Tied Together With a Smile is the song I thing goes most with what I’m trying to say. In particular, the lines, “Hold on baby you’re losing it. The water’s high; you’re jumping into it and letting go. But no one knows that you cry but you won’t tell anyone that you might not be the golden one. You’re tied together with a smile but you’re coming undone.”
It doesn’t exactly tie in, but this is what I feel most expresses my thoughts. My family and friends all have these expectations of me, and I have no idea how I’m supposed to meet all of them. It’s very daunting. It’s enough to make you want to say, “What am I supposed to do?!” and then crush your face into your pillow and scream.

What is your favorite holiday? What makes this holiday special?

What is your favorite holiday?

This is a toughie. Ha I don't know what my favorite holiday is. Is it lame to say my birthday? Yeah probably... Let's just say that it's Christmas.

What makes this holiday special?

Well besides the fact that it's just super fun, it's a great time to spend with family. And I love my family! Especially Madelen, she's superb! Ha :)
But for reals I really enjoy all the Christmas traditions we have. Like how all the kids sleep in my room on Christmas Eve. It's "way" fun. :)

Introduction -- Families are Important Because...

Hello! This is the blog where I will post updates from my Journal Jar that my 10 year old sister made me. I'm hoping this will help her feel connected to me while I am in college. I hope you enjoy! I'll go ahead and start with a question. Ha I just pulled it out and it's perfect for the first post! How serendipidous! Families are important because..... Well, families are important to me because I would be nowhere without them. I've got my parents who not only provide for me physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. Then there's Andie, who makes me laugh and is "way" fun to talk to. Maddie, who is so creative and fun, she always keeps me entertained. Then I've got Annabel, who smothers me in love. Blaine, who can do no wrong. And even Carter, though we have our rough spots, deep down he's a good person. Families are also essential to God's plan. (I stole that from the Family Proclamation.) Heavenly Father knew we wouldn't be able to survive on this Earth alone, so he sent us down in groups. Plus, without families it'd be kinda hard to keep this world populated........ Well that's today's post. I'll try to post them regularly. LOVE YOU MADELEN!!
